Crab (fresh water)

I don’t know the official name for this creature.  We just call them fresh water crabs.  They live in pools in streams as well as lakes in this area.  David caught this one a few years ago in a stream nearby which is a favorite swimming hole for kids.  More recently students have fished them out of a small pond on campus known as the “science pond”.  These crabs are harmless, and are not usually even bothered very much by being picked up.  The crab in the photo is at maximum size and if you look carefully, you will also see baby crabs in David’s hand.  There were many of them attached to momma when David picked her up.
